Coup Countries of the Sahel
Sit Rep:
The situation in Sahel shows no sign of improvement in the foreseeable future. This does not bode well for the region and even Nigeria.
Islamic Militants are now in control over wide swaths of territory in Burkina Faso. There is growing concern for the small Christian Community in Northern Burkina Faso. Sadly, concerns over this group of Christians are overlooked as this is also the area where the extractive mineral industry (gold) is found.
Tensions are rising between Mali and Algeria as the Junta in Mali is now accusing Algeria of supporting the Militants in Mali. Attacks launched by militant groups continue to grow in Ghana, Benin and Togo. The upcoming electoral process in Cote D’Ivoire must be monitored.
Recommended Actions:
- Save the Persecuted Christians and our coalition partners recommend the Trump administration work together with regional stakeholders, actors and local leaders to counter the effects of multiple coups in the Sahel and stave off further destabilizing military takeovers in other African countries.
- Monitor coup countries of the Sahel for IRF designation and appropriate Global Magnitsky sanctions.
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Sit Rep:
Casualties resulting since mid-January 2025 with the resurgence of the March 23 Movement (M23), a rebel group with historical ties to Rwanda, and resulting intensified hostilities in eastern DRC, are chilling. The Congolese Government has claimed that 7,000 people have been killed and at least 400,000 people displaced during the offensive. On Feb 27, two devices exploded at an M23 rally in Bukavu, killing at least 13 people. M23 Muslims from Rwanda want to conquer E. Congo and are seeking control of the mineral-rich eastern region. Indigenous Christians are in their way. Goma, the bustling capital of North Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has long been a focal point of conflict and humanitarian crises. In recent months, the city and its surrounding regions have witnessed a surge in violence marked by egregious human rights violations, targeted attacks on Christian communities, and incursions by marauding groups allegedly backed by neighboring Rwanda.
While the current focus is on the M23 Offensive, there are atrocities by other militant groups that often go overlooked. On Valentine’s Day, reports emerged of 70 bodies being found in an abandoned Church. The consensus is that ISCAP (Islamic State Central African Province) carried out this attack. The group was blamed for a similar attack in January where at least 50 people were killed under similar circumstances. Through the use of the AMAQ propaganda site, the group has claimed the deaths of dozens of other Christians for refusing to convert, bringing the total number of those executed closer to 200. The situation in Goma and other areas that are occupied remains tense as reports emerged of retreating FARDC Troops ransacking Churches and other buildings. Clergy have met with M23 leadership to foster a dialogue to promote peace.
Last year, International Christian Concern reported that 355 Christians were killed.
Recommended Actions:
– Save the Persecuted Christians and our coalition partners recommend the DRC be designated a Country of Particular Concern.
Nigeria
Sit Rep:
Nigeria is the deadliest country for Christians. More Christians are killed for their faith in Nigeria than in all other countries combined. A recent report from “Truth Nigeria,” an American media company employing Nigerian journalists, expose Fulani “death camps” located near Nigerian military installations in Kachia LGA, Kaduna state, holding potentially hundreds of kidnap-for-ransom hostages. It is likely one camp of many.
The alliance between the United States and any country is predicated upon a joint commitment to enforce the law for all citizens, regardless of faith or ethnicity. Both the United States and Nigeria have constitutions that guarantee equal protection under the law, yet the miscarriage of justice in Nigeria is beyond shocking. Often, the murders of Christians are minimized by reference to unexamined theories under the heading of “climate change” or “communal violence.” Official reports on acts of violence and actual numbers of internally displaced people are manipulated, distorted or nonexistent to conceal the truth.
Designating Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” is the first necessary step toward the end of the false narratives that have enabled DOS inaction for far too long. Jihadi terrorism by Muslim Fulani Ethnic Militia (FEM), Boko Haram, and Al Queda-linked groups is not “caused by climate change.” Marauders arriving well-armed and yelling “Allahu Akbar” as they slaughter Christians in their churches and homes is not a “dispute between farmers and herders.”
The frequent murders of Christian citizens in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and northern states are evidence that the infamous Christian genocide in Nigeria is tolerated by the authorities, despite vigorous efforts to suppress Bandit violence, which is a sign of progress. Nigeria could be great, like America. Unfortunately, the EU and the People’s Republic of China are accustomed to using false narratives to preserve the status quo of constant violence and chaos to facilitate economic predation upon Africa’s most populous nation to control vast assets in minerals, oil, and arable land. America must break the mold and show true moral leadership in its dealings with Nigeria. Let’s help “Make Nigeria Great, Too!”
Recommended Actions:
- Save the Persecuted Christians and our coalition partners recommend the Trump administration re-designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern;
- Block future military arms deals and other aid to Nigeria until the federal government proves improved security for all its citizens and particularly the indigenous Christian communities in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and the thirteen northern states where Sharia is imposed;
- Demand the federal government of Nigeria grant U.S. diplomats and staff freedom of movement in the Middle Belt to investigate harm to Middle Belt communities, including the true number of internally displaced people; the number of Christian villages and farms occupied and renamed by Muslim Fulani Ethnic Militants and other terror groups; and ascertain accurate data on Christian versus Muslim casualties of violence in the past decade.
- Send U.S. State Department rapporteurs to affected areas to meet with local leaders and victims of violence and to report on the IDP burden in Middle Belt states. Ensure U.S. diplomats and/or rapporteurs travel outside of Lagos and Abuja outside the influence of government propagandists;
- Impose trade tariffs and targeted visa, travel and U.S. education sanctions on relevant officials;
- After CPC designation, ban Nigerian lobbyists from engagement with the U.S. administration;
- Consider evidence of the systematic Genocide of indigenous Christians in Nigeria’s Middle Belt and move to designate it as Genocide.
South Sudan
Sit Rep:
Despite actions by Khartoum to re-colonize South Sudan, and numbers of Western governments and globalists wanting to get rid of him because they can’t control him, Salva Kiir is still President of South Sudan. In 2011, Kiir, grateful for US support, wanted the US to benefit from the nation’s resources. Not just oil. South Sudan has the agricultural potential to feed all of Africa. Perhaps it is not too late.
Recommended Actions:
- Considering exposures of misuse of funds and manipulation of foreign governments by USAID and other federal agencies, the Trump Administration should reconsider a closer relationship with South Sudan.Despite actions by Khartoum to re-colonize South Sudan and a number of Western governments and globalists wanting to get rid of him because they can’t control him, Salva Kiir is still President of South Sudan.
In 2011, Kiir, grateful for US support, wanted the US to benefit from the nation’s resources—not just oil. South Sudan has the agricultural potential to feed all of Africa, as well as shea butter, teak, mahogany, and other natural resources with which it is blessed. Perhaps it is not too late.
Sudan
Sit Rep:
Despite optimism (or deceit), the ongoing 2023 civil war following the overthrow of Omar al Bashir demonstrates that Sudan remains the same Arab Islamist, Sharia-supremacist regime it has always been. Religious freedom and human rights don’t exist in Sudan. More than 24.6 million people – half of Sudan’s population – are experiencing high levels of acute food insecurity. In April 2024, USCIRF sounded an alarm about attacks against religious communities in Sudan.
Recommended Actions:
- Redesignate Sudan as a Country of Particular Concern.
- Consider the evidence for Genocide in Sudan.
- Mobilize aid for internally displaced people and victims of religious persecution and help stop the growing famine crisis by negotiating an end to the war.
- Consider redesignating Sudan as a Country of Particular Concern. Despite optimism (or deceit) after the overthrow of Omar al Bashir, events including the ongoing 2023 civil war demonstrate that Sudan remains the same Arab Islamist, Sharia-supremacist regime it has always been. Religious freedom and human rights don’t exist in Sudan.

China
Sit Rep:
The People’s Republic of China (PRC) has been widely criticized for systemic human rights and religious freedom violations, many of which stem from the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) authoritarian control. Here’s a summary of key issues:
- Repression of Religious Groups: The PRC imposes severe restrictions on religious practices, targeting groups like Uyghur Muslims, Tibetan Buddhists, Christians, and Falun Gong practitioners. Policies include forced renunciation of faith, destruction of religious sites, and mass internment in “re-education” camps, particularly for Uyghurs in Xinjiang—where credible reports estimate over a million have been detained since 2017. The CCP enforces “Sinicization,” requiring religious doctrine to align with party ideology, including rewriting texts and banning youth from religious activities.
- Mass Surveillance and Censorship: The PRC employs pervasive surveillance, including facial recognition and AI, to monitor citizens, especially minorities. Online censorship blocks dissenting views, with thousands of websites inaccessible and harsh punishments for free speech. This creates a culture of self-censorship and fear.
- Forced Labor and Cultural Erasure: Ethnic minorities, particularly Uyghurs and Tibetans, face forced labor, cultural assimilation, and coercive policies like forced sterilization and family separation. These actions have been described by some as amounting to crimes against humanity or genocide, though the PRC denies this, claiming such measures combat extremism or promote development.
- Arbitrary Detention and Torture: Human rights defenders, lawyers, and dissidents are subject to arbitrary detention, secret trials, and torture. The judicial system lacks independence, with the CCP exerting control over courts, ensuring political conformity over justice.
- Transnational Repression: The PRC extends its reach beyond borders, harassing and intimidating diaspora communities, forcibly repatriating individuals, and targeting critics abroad, undermining global freedoms.
- Hong Kong and Civil Liberties: Since the 2020 National Security Law, Hong Kong has seen a sharp decline in freedoms. Pro-democracy activists, journalists, and politicians face arrests, trials with high conviction rates, and media suppression, effectively dismantling the city’s semi-autonomous status.
The PRC’s stance is that its policies are necessary for stability and development, often framing criticism as foreign interference. However, international bodies and NGOs consistently document abuses, urging accountability.
Recommended Actions:
- Continue the CPC designation for China
- Decouple from China
- Ban lobbyists for the PRC from engaging with your administration
- Block Chinese products known to be linked to forced labor
- Create disincentives for U.S. investment in China
- Block U.S. designated CCP companies and subsidiaries from U.S. markets and indexes

Azerbaijan
Sit Rep:
While the world wrestled with the COVID-19 pandemic, Azerbaijan went to war with Christian Armenians in the autonomous region of Nagorno-Karabakh (a.k.a. the Republic of Artsakh). On September 19, 2023, after a nine-month blockade, Azerbaijan launched its final assault, resulting in the ethnic cleansing and forced exile of the entire indigenous Armenian population to Armenia proper. A peace deal has not been concluded.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan and Turkey continue to threaten Armenia proper with invasion and, ultimately, the annihilation of one of the world’s most ancient yet still existent civilizations and the world’s first Christian nation.
Recommended Actions:
- Designate Azerbaijan as a Country of Particular Concern for aggression against and ethnic cleansing of Armenian Christians of Nagorno-Karabakh, the mass destruction of religious heritage sites, and continued threats of aggression against Armenia proper.
- Consider the evidence for genocide in Artsakh and threats of genocide against all of Armenia.
- Give Presidential support for a bill in Congress to Protect Holy Sites. (Draft in progress, soon to be introduced)
Russia
Sit Rep:
Continued military action to eliminate Ukraine as a nation and subsume her citizens.
Recommended Actions:
- Continue to designate Russia as a Country of Particular Concern
- Impose personal sanctions on Russian leaders, including the Russian Orthodox Church—Moscow Patriarchate’s Patriarch Kirill, for his actions to encourage and support genocide of the Ukrainian people and elimination of Ukraine as a nation.
Turkey (Türkiye)
Sit Rep: Turkey, a NATO partner, is busy destabilizing the Middle East with continued violence towards the religious minorities and vulnerable Christian communities of Northeast Syria. Turkish special forces were involved in Azerbaijan’s seizure of Nagorno Karabakh, destruction of its Christian heritage, and threats to eliminate Armenia as a nation—the first Christian nation and also its massive abuses of Christians at home and in neighboring Syria. Turkey. Manifesting a neo-imperialism across MENA and the Caucuses, Turkey must be countered.
Recommended Actions:
- Designate Turkey as a Country of Particular Concern.
- Impose sanctions on Turkey’s leaders, just as you did in October 2019, to push Turkey into stopping its aerial war on U.S. allies who are still fighting ISIS remnants in Syria
- Support an inclusive, democratic outcome for Syria that gives all citizens equal rights in order to stabilize Syria and avoid the threat of an Islamist state on Israel’s Northern border.

Radical Islam Ravages Christian Communities in Mena
Sit Rep: The Muslim Brotherhood’s Arab Spring protests in 2011 unleashed more than a decade of violence still wreaking havoc and chaos in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The Islamist ideology of the Brotherhood movement replaced what had previously been moderate Arab Muslim secular nationalism. This radical Islamist ideology gave rise to ISIS and other terror groups globally. It brought with it the inconceivable decimation of ancient Christian and other religious minority communities throughout MENA.
During the first Trump administration, the nightmare reality of an ISIS Caliphate collapsed, and we witnessed the historic Abraham Accords to advance a culture of peace among the three Abrahamic religions. Unfortunately, as we have seen in Syria, the Muslim Brothers and their offspring have put on suits and ties instead of camo, but they are still terrorists all the same.
Recommended Actions:
- Save the Persecuted Christians and her coalition partners recommend CPC designation, or continued designation, for Iran and Syria. And Qatar should be designated as a state-sponsor of terrorism.

India
Sit Rep:
Persecution across India towards Christians is expanding. mistreatment of Christians is taking place at the hands of supporters of India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by your guest today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP uses lawfare and harassment to oppress and persecute our co-religionists. other religious minorities and vulnerable lowercaste citizens. Churches have been burned. Christian ministry engagements have been canceled or refused permits, and many believers have been threatened, denied equal rights, and live in fear.
Discrimination against Christians and the lower caste prevents their full access to the economy and impedes India’s emergence as a great trade and strategic partner of the United States – especially in countering the Chinese Communist Party’s ambition to achieve regional and ultimately global hegemony.
Recommended Action(s):
- Save the Persecuted Christians and our partners recommend India be designated as a Country of Particular concern or at the very least be listed as a Special Watch List country.
- Save the Persecuted Christians and our coalition partners believe President Trump could have profound and beneficial impact if he would speak with PM Modi about his party’s mistreatment of: our Christian brothers and sisters in India, other religious minorities and the subjugated lower caste. Together, they make up the vast majority of India’s population.
- Trade tariff’s and other targeted sanctions tied to improved human rights and equal protection under the law for all citizens could drive progress in India.

Advance of Communist Regimes Opposed to U.S. Judeo-Christian Principles
Sit Rep:
The new Trump administration must address the advance of Communist China and communism south of the U.S. border. Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Honduras, Venezuela, Mexico, Nicaragua, St Lucia, and the Dominican Republic are the 11 countries governed by socialist-communist parties, and they are members of the Foro de Sao Paulo, founded by Fidel Castro and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. They are all friendly with with China, Russia, and Iran, and are important beachheads for all cartels. In most cases, the connivence of the government, criminal organizations and business makes it close to impossible to target measures against only one of those structures.
Crossing mainly from Colombia, the cartels are invading Ecuador where a presidential candidate they disliked was murdered in August 2023. Priests and religious sisters in these countries are targeted by organized crime, as they try to help the youth not to migrate and, therefore, threaten cartel human trafficking operations and profit.
Recommended Action(s):
- Designate Communist countries south of the U.S. border as Countries of Particular Concern, particularly Nicaragua, Cuba and Mexico.
- Designate the main trafficking cartels as International Terrorist Organizations, with all the inherent consequences fully implemented.
